Evin Kücükali, known as EVÎN is a singer, producer, and songwriter that combines R&B, Soul, and her oriental roots with melancholic vibes sometimes driven by beats and sometimes in the shape of pure melodic, soulful songs with a love for detailed soundscapes.
The music is complementing her lyrics which tell deep-going stories inspired by life and beyond. She’s inspired by artists such as James Blake, Rosalía, Jorja Smith, FKA twigs, and Sufjan Stevens. Besides her voice, the piano, guitar, and computer became tools to write the songs she’s been releasing since 2020 together with her team of music producers and musicians Karl Kindermann and Jako independently.
Born 1995 in Bochum, Germany, Evîn grew up in a family of Laz and Kurdish immigrants. Because of her father, a political journalist, and activist, Evîn gained political awareness and engagement at an early age, which turned out to be an important part of her life. That’s why next to personal matters she discusses issues such as social injustice, female empowerment, and commemorative culture in her songs. Growing up listening to D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, the Beatles, and Bob Dylan, Evîn came up early writing songs of her own.
Poems, history, reading classics, her surroundings, dancing, art, and fashion are inspiring her to write. Continuously developing herself she seeks out to use music as a weapon to deal with anxiety, self-doubt, and pressure. Hence singing in front of a crowd feels like reading her diary out loud, which creates an intimate connection to her audience.
With her songs, Evîn wants to create a unique style and push boundaries. In between sounds, harmonies, chords, percussion, and beats you can find her with a voice full of vulnerability and passion.
The upcoming single “Undefined” will be released on 26th November and will be the first single off her debut self-titled EP “EVÎN”.
