Alayo. is a rising artist with a soulful and conscious ability to express themselves through the power of music extraordinarily, as well as create an intriguing thread of thoughts and pictures with words.
The Chill Pop instrumentation makes up the arguably simplistic soundscape, yet they never fail to intrigue and keep the listener engaged with the complex structure and layered elements.
The meaningful lyrics in this Used To Be are truly soulful and display emotional narratives of love-driven stories, open to personal interpretation from the listener, which helps in creating a bond between the music and listener, that builds a strong listener base!
In the music industry, attaching a strong brand to music is extremely important. We think that Alayo. is definitely on the right track in this regard. It’s no surprise that with time, the music and the brand continue to just keep going up!

Artist Interview
Modern Soulful Music (MSM:) What made you decide to jump into the music industry or music business?
Alayo. (A:) I have loved music ever since I was little. I started to produce and play the guitar at a very young age and just fell in love with it. It’s been nonstop ever since.
Modern Soulful Music (MSM:) What do you think makes you stand out from all the other aspiring and upcoming artists in your genre of music?
A: I’ve been told I have a particular voice & production style.
Modern Soulful Music (MSM:) If you could collaborate with ANY artist/band… Who would you choose and why?
A: I would love to collaborate with Hiatus Kaiyote. I truly admire their songwriting. Incredibly talented musicians.
Modern Soulful Music (MSM:) What do you think is your biggest Advantage and your biggest Disadvantage about being an Indie Artist?
A: I think a big advantage of being an indie artist is your full creative freedom. A big disadvantage is the funding but the process of starting from the ground up makes it all worth it in the end.
Modern Soulful Music (MSM:) Do you prefer the Independent route or would you rather sign to a major record label, and why?
A: I prefer the independent route. I started up my own record label, NY7 Records with incredible Artists such as Jezzivette, Quiet Time, Atomic Pleasures, Femily and Nostalgic Minds.
Modern Soulful Music (MSM:) Out of all the songs you’ve released, what do you think is your best song and why?
A: Out of all the songs I’ve released, I think my best song is “Backseat”. I actually produced it with a Kehlani collaboration in mind. Far-fetched but one can dream. (*laughs) Who knows? Maybe one day.
Modern Soulful Music (MSM:) Between creating in the studio OR performing live on stage, which is your most enjoyable one and why?
A: I love to create in the studio but performing on stage is everything to me. There’s a wave of energy that comes with it. It just can’t be described.
Modern Soulful Music (MSM:) What would you consider the most successful or proudest moment in your music career, so far?
My proudest moment so far was when I played guitar on the MainStage at Wynwood Pride. Much love to SheLife for making it all happen (IG: @SheLifeEvents)
A: I also just performed at iiiPoints alongside Le Poodle (IG: @Le_Poodle). It was an experience I’ll never forget.
Modern Soulful Music (MSM:) What inspires you the most about the music industry these days?
A: What inspires me the most is the opportunities that are being given to newer/independent artists. You don’t have to aim to go “mainstream” in order to grow your fanbase.
Modern Soulful Music (MSM:) If you weren’t in the music business or industry, what do you think you would be doing with your life instead?
A: If I weren’t in the music industry, I’d most likely be in the film industry. I love to write scripts and have written a few. It all started in middle school.
