Artist Interview: The ATif

What made you decide to jump into the music industry or music business?

The ATif (TA:) Music has always been the best form of expression for me. The metaphysical and the magical impact chords can have on our vibes has been mesmerizing. Parents tell me I used to sing even before I could speak. Also playing guitar and piano I learned the ability to time travel through music in past and sometimes future.

What do you think makes you stand out from all the other aspiring and upcoming artists in your genre of music?

TA: My musical approach is very simple. The song must jump out of the speakers and the headphones. It should have some sort of power on you. It should be risky, it should be out of the comfort zone, it should hit the sweet spot in a fresh way. That’s what I try to do in a very song-oriented way. I think artists die but songs live on. Elvis, MJ, Jim Morrison or Eddie Van Halen. Press play and they are there. Teleportation.

If you could collaborate with ANY artist/band… Who would you choose and why?

TA: I think I would sing a duet with Richard Marx, Bryan Adams, or Kenny G- I have met all three.

Out of all the songs you’ve released, what do you think is your Best song and why?

TA: I think my latest is my greatest. With Alien Inn I added another dimension into my songwriting, production and the ability to import meaningful themes through catchy lyrics. Recorded in LA with Dave “The Rainman” Banta who has worked with Sting, Tupac, Take That and MJ- it was an out of soul experience to work at his studio.

Between creating in the studio OR performing live on stage, which is your most enjoyable one and why?

TA: I like live as it is instant response. It helps in juggling energies with listeners. You make strangers into friends instantly. Studio of course you can plan, arrange and deliberate the most unbelievable ideas while reflecting and feeling them.

What would you consider your most successful or proudest moment in your music career, so far?

TA: I recently performed my song “Raise Some Hell’ at a diversity festival in NYC. I meshed it up with We Will Rock You and They Don’t Care About Us. The response was mesmerizing.

What inspires you the Most about the music industry these days?

TA: The creative control. The autonomy to do anything. The ability to reach anywhere. Be at the fingertips of the listeners. Also, the automation to interact instantly and convert every wave to your advantage. The unbelievable technological control. Sadly, we aren’t creating enough magic.

What kind of impact do you want to make with your music?

TA: I want to write beyond sex, drugs, and designer wear. I want to address themes such as social responsibility, equality, disease, greed, hunger, education, climate change, fitness, and many more. I want to create a real impact beyond hips don’t lie.

Jake Walters – Artist Interview

What made you decide to jump into the music industry or music business?

Jake Walters (JW:) I’ve always felt drawn to music, and have since learned that it is the best way to use my voice for good. Music is healing to both the listener, and the creator. I feel so blessed to be able to create it.

What do you think makes you stand out from all the other aspiring and upcoming artists in your genre of music?

JW: I really feel like I have a palpable innocence, positivity, and love that penetrates my music, and makes people feel good, which is ultimately my deepest wish. I use pop music, the most accessible genre, to paint a sonic picture of the human experience, and my message is always to spread love.

If you could collaborate with ANY artist/band… Who would you choose and why?:

JW: Probably Lady Gaga, because she stands so strongly for the power of kindness.

What do you think is your biggest Advantage and your biggest Disadvantage about being an Indie artist?:

JW: My biggest advantage is that I can be free to create art that feels good, and that I think will truly make a difference. A disadvantage is that it can sometimes feel overwhelming, as I don’t have a team with me to help me with things like promotion.

Do you prefer the Independent route or would you rather sign to a major record label, and why?

JW: If I could somehow have both, I think that would be ideal. I want my art to be free and expressive, but also be able to have someone who believes in it and invests in it.

Out of all the songs you’ve released, what do you think is your Best song and why?

JW: I think my song “The Golden Hour,” speaks the loudest in terms of what my message is: that is, to love yourself, and to love others, no matter the pain you have gone through. That pain does not define you.

Between creating in the studio OR performing live on stage, which is your most enjoyable one and why?

JW: There’s nothing like a live performance. The energy is electric, and anything could happen! 🙂

What would you consider your most successful or proudest moment in your music career, so far?

JW: I am not sure if this counts, but I sang a song dedicated to my family, “Evelyn,” at my Uncle’s funeral service. I struggle sometimes to tell people how I feel with words, and my Uncle and I had a strange relationship. Singing that song for him, and for all of my family there, was transformative and healing, and I’ll never forget it.

What inspires you the Most about the music industry these days?

JW: There is a big push for social awareness, which is something that I think is so important. People are hurting right now, and it’s important to remind each other, and ourselves, that we are not alone.

If you wasn’t in the music business or industry, what do you think you would be doing with your life instead?

JW: I truly can’t imagine doing anything else, but I do LOVE to cook, so maybe I could be a chef! 🙂 I also am interested in psychology, so that would be a pretty interesting career path to explore!

Artist Spotlight Interview: Who Is “Savior Monroe?”

What made you decide to jump into the music industry or music business?: Ive always written material with a message in it, whether short stories, scripts or novels. Shortly after, I wanted to spread my message of self esteem and spirit through music, so I began writing songs which turned into making music.

What do you think makes you stand out from all the other aspiring and upcoming artists in your genre of music?: I have an underlining tone of spiritual aspects mixed in with street reality and pop fiction in my music. There are artists that focus on one or the other, but I’m the only hip hop artist I know that channels all 3 in their music. On top of that, I’m very transparent in my art. I get personal while using my music as a therapeutic outlet to express myself, and who better to tell my story but myself.

If you could collaborate with ANY artist/band… Who would you choose and why?: I always wanted to work with 9th Wonder, a producer from North Carolina responsible for Jamla records who Rapsody is signed to. He’s done production for Rapsody of course, Jay-Z, Little Brother, Kendrick Lamar as well as many others. Its something about his sound that captures an emotion in me that I dont channel often. I did a mixtape with a friend of mine over all 9th Wonder beats we downloaded. But I would really be happy and appreciative if I could lock in with 9th one on one and get something custom made.

What do you think is your biggest Advantage and your biggest Disadvantage about being an Indie artist?: The advantage of being an indie artist its having 100 percent creative control over your work. The disadvantage is coming out of your pocket to fund everything you need to get your career going and in most cases, keep it going. But I’d rather have it that way than get an advance from a label and have them control my creative direction and overall artist direction.

Do you prefer the Independent route or would you rather sign to a major record label, and why?: I prefer independence because of the creative control you maintain. With my type of music, I need all of my creative control.

Out of all the songs you’ve released, what do you think is your Best song and why?: Thats a tough one because I love just about everything I actually release, especially lately. But my best song to me personally has to be “Heritage of Linguistics.” This track embodies what Savior Monroe does best. Content, style, wordplay, and my producer Kay-Y created a beat that was able to bring the best out of me.

Honorable mentions would be “What Is Success”, “Adam Kadmon” and “Seraph” which i wrote about my mom who died from cancer in 2017.

Between creating in the studio OR performing live on stage, which is your most enjoyable one and why?: Creating in the studio because I do engineering as well. So I get the previledge of writing, recording, mixing and mastering (if need be) in the studio where as on stage its only performance, even though I LOVE to perform as well.

What would you consider your most successful or proudest moment in your music career, so far?: Performing at the Palace of Auburn Hills for the Michigan part of the ‘Warped Tour’ before the Palace was closed down. Definitely a monumental moment for me. Also, creating and finishing “Lost Innocence Awakening”, the album I wrote and dedicated to my mom after she passed away from Cancer.

What inspires you the Most about the music industry these days?: The fact that artists of all ages are getting spotlight now. They are quick to tell you that hip hop is a young persons game, but they dont put that stipulation on any other genre of music. But thanks to things like Versuz, social media, and the need for more mature artists these days, older artists are being respected and sought after more than ever within the last decade. The biggest artists are still the young ones, but there is room for more mature artists now as well. I dont consider myself old yet, but Im not young either and the game is inviting artist my age more and more lately so Im proud about that. The fact that hip hop is respected now, no matter the age rank is a beautiful thing in my opinion.

If you wasn’t in the music business or industry, what do you think you would be doing with your life instead?: Probably a counselor of some kind. Or a psychologist.
