Karras, the rapper known for his clever wordplay and witty lyricism, has released his latest single “Kerosene (Stony D Mix)”. The song is a tribute to his punk and metal roots that he cultivated over a decade of playing in local bands before transitioning fully into rap.
“Kerosene” features two non-stop verses of Karras delivering wordplay about the genres that he grew up playing and listening to. He references Thin Lizzy, Jimi Hendrix, Motorhead, Black Sabbath, Guns N Roses, Beastie Boys (back when they were a hardcore punk band),Iron Butterfly, Jefferson Airplane, Woodstock ’69, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Miles Davis, Santana, Deep Purple, Fleetwood Mac, Black Flag, Metallica, Sonic Youth and more.
The vocals were recorded to an amazing beat made by Karras’s best friend Stony D. Unfortunately during production the file got corrupted due to a power outage leading Stony D feeling defeated. After some time had passed Stony agreed to re-do the whole track from scratch and it turned out even tighter and harder hitting.
The single artwork spoofs Black Sabbath’s album “Sabotage” with Karras’s face superimposed over Ozzy Osbourne’s iconic helmet. It perfectly reflects the humorous approach Karras took while making this song about heavy metal and such.
“I loved punk and metal for a long time and still enjoy many of those bands,” says Karras. “But it hasn’t held my interest like rap has. Not even close.”
“Kerosene (Stony D Mix)” is now available on all major digital platforms. Listen to it now and catch some of Karras’s clever lines and niche references.
