Gregory Hutchinson, the acclaimed drummer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter, has once again captivated audiences with his latest release, “New Dawn” featuring Liselotte Östblom.
“New Dawn” is a captivating collaboration that seamlessly intertwines infectious rhythms and airy jazz keys. Östblom’s soulful vocals blend harmoniously with Hutchinson’s punchy drum production, resulting in a mesmerizing fusion of melody and rhythm. This enchanting track embodies personal growth and transformation, encapsulating the exhilaration and determination of embracing a fresh start. With lyrics like “It’s a dawning of dreams / A new regime / The forming of a crown on my head / I’m moving on,” Östblom’s soulful delivery invites listeners to embark on a journey of new beginnings and exciting horizons.
“New Dawn” follows the previously released offerings “Straight From The Heart” featuring Leona Berlin & Karriem Riggins, and “Blow My Mind/Let’s Take It Back” featuring Sy Smith and Javier Starks. Recorded by award-winning producer/drummer Karriem Riggins, the 15-track collection of ‘Da Bang’ features an all-star lineup of unique collaborators, including Leona Berlin, PJ, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Vernon Reid, Christian Scott, Nicholas Payton, Kameron Corvet, Tim Smith, Sy Smith, Javier Starks, Samora, James Poyser, and more.
Renowned for his work with jazz greats such as Betty Carter, Red Rodney, Roy Hargrove, and Joshua Redman, Gregory Hutchinson has solidified his status as one of the most highly regarded musicians of his generation. Born in Brooklyn, NY, and now based in Rome, Italy, Hutchinson’s musical influences span across genres, ranging from soul and R&B to reggae and classic hip-hop.
With ‘Da Bang,’ Hutchinson takes his diverse musical background and infuses it with Brooklyn energy to create a genre-busting album. The deeply personal lyrics reflect his own experiences and are brought to life through his strikingly powerful songcraft. While rooted in jazz tradition, Hutchinson’s versatility and imagination shine through in each composition. Tracks like “We Got Drumz” featuring Javier Starks & Soweto Kinch and the album-closing “Fly Away” featuring Nicholas Payton showcase his mastery of timing, natural feel, and staggering innovation.
Gregory Hutchinson explains his artistic vision for ‘Da Bang’ by stating, “Making music is, I think, supposed to be kind of like telling your life story. I’m not trying to portray anything that I’m not in the music. I just understand what makes people move and how to do that.”
As Gregory Hutchinson continues to push the boundaries of jazz and soul with his groundbreaking debut solo album ‘Da Bang,’ “New Dawn” stands as a testament to his extraordinary talent and artistic evolution.
