What story/emotional narrative does your music tell?

My song “Drug of Choice” is about a pure love addiction. Being completely in love with a person to the point that feeling you get when you are around them becomes addictive and you can’t wait to see them again!

How does your music bring inspiration to the soul?

My music touches on relationships and love stories. When we create we want the listener to feel connected to the story. Most people after a certain age have had some sort of relationship and knows the feeling of new love and or heartbreak and we try to hit every emotion in between.

Who inspires you? Who are your role models?

I am originally from Bridgetown, Barbados. I grew up listening to Rhianna. She was the first superstar from our island. I was around 8 years old watching her on tv dreaming of being like her.

Why do you want to be an award-winning Modern Soulful Musician?

Music is my passion and theres nothing else I want to do. I cherish the opportunity to be recognized for my gift and passion. It would mean the world to me!!!

What story/emotional narrative does your music tell?

The song was written shortly after Tolu became born again while staying in Austria. She was asked to minister in song for a conference her church was putting on. In seeking God’s face about what to sing, she was led to write the song based on the conference theme “Is there anything too hard for the Lord?” from Genesis 18:14 a word spoken to Sarah by God after she was told that she would have a son within nine months in her old age. What seemed impossible had been spoken, and the promises God had given them were about to be actualized. Sarah and Abraham had been promised a child for so long, Abraham had been told that he would be the father of many nations. Even though Sarah laughed she was able to conceive Isaac by faith and Abraham is now known as the father of many nations.

That is what this song is about, having faith in God, that what He has said to you will come to pass; hanging on to His word concerning your life. Recognizing that: God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill? (Numbers 23:19). His words never come back to Him void!

How does your music bring inspiration to the soul?

The music is meant to inspire and motivate people to believe in God for what may be impossible.

Who inspires you? Who are your role models?

God inspires me. My role model are musicians who have pushed through the challenges in their lives. Travis Greene is a great example.

Why do you want to be an award-winning Modern Soulful Musician?

I believe that my music has what it takes to impact lives and change people for the better.

What story/emotional narrative does your music tell?

The day I sat down to write ‘One Day’ I had gotten a text message from a close friend about how they were in a bad place and had made an attempt on their life just the day before. It was during that moment I knew ‘One Day’ had to be a story about what One Day would bring. The song is a letter to a friend, a family member, or somebody you love. Somebody who needs to hear you say that “One Day, it will get better” It’s a hand reaching back into the snow to pull them out from under their drowning. To let them know they’re not alone in this world.

How does your music bring inspiration to the soul?

With my music, I try to be a voice for what I’ve coined ‘The Unheard’ The Unheard are those who go, well.. Unheard. Those dealing with intense mental illness, those who’ve been razed by domestic violence, and survivors of sexual abuse. As The Monarch of Clockbutterflies, I stand to be the wings for any butterfly not yet ready to own their voice. To speak their words until they are ready, to light the way.

Who inspires you? Who are your role models?

Hip-Hop in itself inspires me. The only reason I make music is Hip-Hop has been known for shaping the world around it, and there is a change I wish to bring. The one thing the entire world listens to is music, and hip-hop is the platform for rebellion. If I want to paint a better world for these butterflies, I needed a canvas.

Why do you want to be an award-winning Modern Soulful Musician?:

I would be honored to be an award-winning Modern Soulful Musician for the simple fact, any eyes on me are eyes on my cause. Any eyes on me are eyes I can show the problems. The world won’t change unless we show it the problem. To win even a single award for grant me a merit, a proof of concept of sorts. It would be a step in this fight against injustice. A brick in the world I want to build.

Artist Bio

LeadBoots’ fourth EP – “Someplace Better” follows the 2020’s well-received ‘The Call of the Void’ and highlights the band’s refusal to adhere entirely to a single genre. With an emphasis on hooks and melodies, the band manages to seamlessly weave the fabric of blues, folk, punk-pop, and indie into a patchwork of something new, yet timeless and familiar.
The band started out as an acoustic duo in Norwich, playing intricate folk and blues arrangements. Increasingly leaning towards their love of indie and rock, their rhythm section was employed with the aim of creating a range of songs from Radiohead to 1920’s delta blues. The result is a sound that can take inspiration from anywhere, but is undeniably LeadBoots.

The indie rock instrumentation across the project makes up the arguably simplistic soundscape, yet they never fail to intrigue and keep the listener engaged with the complex structure and layered elements of each song.

The meaningful lyrics are truly soulful and display emotional narratives of dark yet insightful driven stories, open to personal interpretation from the listener, which helps in creating a bond between the music and listener, that builds a strong listener base!

The soulful indie rock vocals are introduced seamlessly each time, and the harmonies are at the forefront, and constantly take the spotlight.

MSM: What do you think makes you stand out from all the other aspiring and upcoming artists in your genre of music?

Xoo: I’m the most honest egotistical person I know. I acknowledge my weaknesses as well as my strengths as an artist and I actually work on them. If I say I’m the best I gotta prove it right?

Xoo: Depends on the deal. But being your own entity and having labels run to you sounds more lit..so independent.

MSM: Out of all the songs you’ve released, what do you think is your Best song and why?

Xoo: For me, it’s “Out The Mud!” It’s a crowd favorite. (*laughs) Sometimes the people pick their own favorites.

MSM: Between creating in the studio OR performing live on stage, which is your most enjoyable one and why?

Xoo: STAGE!!!!!!! Cuz’ I love performing with every fiber in my being!! Being in the people that love/hate yo’ face is refreshing.

MSM: What would you consider the most successful or proudest moment in your music career, so far?

Xoo: Shiiiiiit it’s a lot..but when baby Xoo heard saw me rapping, he would always kick in the womb when he heard me. But seeing his face was my reassurance that I’ll never stop.

MSM: What inspires you the most about the music industry these days?

Xoo: Bars!!!! And collabs…

MSM: If you weren’t in the music business or industry, what do you think you would be doing with your life instead?

Day and night, Zhake has been working on music since 2018 and is set to release his debut single (Best Joke) on all platforms in July 2021.
