Artist Bio
LaVance Colley has fused the presence, range, and fervor of a Gospel singer with the versatility of Jazz, Pop, and the heart of R&B to develop a style all his own. As an accomplished vocalist, his credits include working with legends like Beyonce Knowles, John Legend, Shawn Mendes, Pharrell Williams, Diana Ross, Lizzo, Director Robert Townsend, and Andy Grammer to name a few. Over the last decade, Shon has taken the time to hone his craft through Soundcloud releases and dorm room mixtapes. Once he left college in 2018, it would take a few more years of trial and error and the release of his first multi-platform streaming EP, “The Process”, before seemingly finding his stride.
With some life under his belt, and a vibe unmatched, Shon finds himself pondering, reflecting, and embracing present future and past moments. His growth as an artist stems from his growth as a person and as one continues to evolve so does the other. This song was co-written by myself, Rachel Davie Lee and Jeremy Hicks (“Try Bishop”) and produced by Jeremy Hicks in Atlanta. The song can be described as neo-soul and I feel it has elements of both a classic yet contemporary love song. The lyrics are simple yet are intended to convey a deep love, appreciation and passion for the subject. The song shifts between close intimacy in the verses to expressing an urgency of time passing and then the euphoric, giddy feeling of being in love so you literally feel like you are floating on air. Overall it is supposed to reflect the intensity of love. The song demonstrates my vocal range and I use my classical singing background stylistically in the chorus. I do hope that you as the reviewer may enjoy it.

Words from the artist:
The story of Sleepyhead started out in my bedroom, ironically. I was in my bed doing a lot of thinking, and probably a lot of overthinking. I fell into this repeated game I play with my mind, getting wrapped up in my own thoughts and worries and emotions. As l laid there, I started to think about how everyone goes through these sorts of “fights’ ‘ or “games’ ‘ with their own minds, often repeating the same toxic ways of thinking over and over again because we’re so accustomed to it. I began to write down some of these ideas I was having, and that’s when I came up with the line, “I built myself a house of tricks, with a clock on the wall that always ticks.” The rest of the song more or less grew out of this line. I was trying to capture the idea that your mind can seem like this crazy, scary thing that you can’t control, but it really is something you built yourself, based on your own ways of thinking. I had just written the chorus and couldn’t quite figure out where to go with the rest of the song just yet. I showed Pom Pom and Zoe Moss what I had so far, and we all talked about the struggle of mental health and the maze that is your own mind. From there, the rest of the song just flowed out of us, it seemed like a concept that was so universal but also meaningful, and we couldn’t wait to share it.

Born and raised in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts (population 6,000) – a seaside town near Cape Cod – Hunter began taking voice lessons at eight years old. Though Mattapoisett is both small and distinctly quaint, Hunter will tell you that her hometown has fueled her love for music in a myriad of ways.
