Singer, songwriter, drummer, and bandleader, Tedi Brunetti has come a long way since discovering music as a youth in Pittsburgh. She grew up listening to her transistor radio and banging along on a hamper and hat boxes. In fact, Tedi has pretty much seen it all as a touring drummer with notable national and international acts like Eloise Laws, Isis’ Carol
MacDonald and Witch, and the Debbie Harry/Mick Jones-produced, B-Girls. She has since formed the Tedi Brunetti Band, and is seated upon her “throne” as the bandleader and reigning “Queen of Pittsburgh.”

In the music industry, attaching a strong brand to music is extremely important. We think that Tedi Brunetti is definitely on the right track in this regard. It’s no surprise that with time, the music and the brand will continue to just keep going up!

Artist Interview

Modern Soulful Music: What made you decide to jump into the music industry or music business?

Risa the Kid (RK:) I’ve seen a movie called ‘We Are Your Friends’. It is about a young DJ who is grinding his way to a big success. I wanted to be like that and create dope art. I also watched Neels Visser’s vlogs which inspired me to pursue this lifestyle.

What do you think makes you stand out from all the other aspiring and upcoming artists in your genre of music?

RK: I don’t stick to just one genre and I try to experiment a lot. I am creative in many areas, I am not only a musician. I DJ and I make mixtapes curated by interesting people, I call them DJ cassette mixtapes.

I also make a video diary on my youtube channel. I weekly curate a Spotify playlist called ‘BIZZARE MUSIQUE TASTE. I also have a discord server called ‘INTERNET ESCAPE’.

On my website, I write articles for people like me who never want to grow up, who never want to stop dreaming. I am an independent artist and I have no management I don’t plan to change this. I always want to be in direct touch with my community.

If you could collaborate with ANY artist/band… Who would you choose and why?

RK: My head is full of dream collaborations and features. The person I would like to work with the most is Corpse Husband. He also hides his face and has similar opinions and does things in a similar way. He inspires me a lot. I would like to meet him one day and make some dope art together. I plan to remix one of his songs for sure. I think that could be a great start. I would also love to work with Travis Barker. His drums and production are on another level and I love the passion he puts into his craft.

Out of all the songs you’ve released, what do you think is your Best song and why?

RK: My best song is definitely ‘irïs’. It’s that kind of song I would listen to myself. I’ve listened to it a million times and I still love it. I love everything about it. My goal, in general, is to create art I would love to listen to myself and I am happy this is exactly what irïs has become.

Between creating in the studio OR performing live on stage, which is your most enjoyable one and why?

RK: I always enjoy experiencing something new. I love both of these experiences. Each of them has it’s good and bad. I love performing because I feel so alive at that moment, but the stress that is all around is not enjoyable. I also love creating in a studio, making something new and unique, it is a long process so sometimes it is frustrating.

What would you consider the most successful or proudest moment in your music career, so far?

RK: I made a remix of an interlude called ‘banyan tree’ from Machine Gun Kelly. It went viral on youtube. For an upcoming artist that is a dope achievement.

What inspires you the most about the music industry these days?

RK: I always loved the music from the 00s, I never really liked the way music is heading these days. I never really liked rap. I don’t like how it is not melodic and sometimes the artists don’t put the effort they could into their craft in rap which is sad. I always loved pop-punk and punk rock. What inspires me about the music industry is that in the past year these genres which seemed dead are coming back. Artists like Machine Gun Kelly, Yungblud, Lil Lotus, jxdn & Kid Punk are bringing the good old rock music back to the spotlight. With the help of legend Travis Barker, I love that music is constantly evolving and things come back.

What kind of impact do you want to make with your music?

RK: I want to make people feel different. I want them to feel something real. To feel a transcendent experience. My dream is to show someone my music and their response would be a genuine ‘wooooooooow’. That would be the best thing!

Check out this Artist Spotlight: TCW Tre with his dark mystical track “Nightlife”

16-year-old Minnesota-based artist and rapper TCW Tre continues to raise the bar in the alternative, gritty, and storytelling hip hop, with the striking intensity and equally haunting visuals of Nightlife.

TCW Tre is an artist known for throwing a wrench into the works and going against the grain of the current fashion trend in his career. The tone and range of his voice are incomparable and his mannerisms are all his own. The messages in his songs hold such a plot-twisting meaning under the shallow conjecture that gets stuck in your head.TCW Tre’s low-voiced bellow is deep, atonal, and easygoing, and its contained coolness is almost threatening. It’s a kind of rap rendition that wraps you around its low-voiced bellow.

The tune employs a genuine calm feel alongside a single vocal lead and minor echoes of voice for added impact, with essential yet haunting background and intense pace.

The vocal tone, the sharp delivery, the dynamic flow, and the similarly sharp, smart arrangement of the bars all contribute to the weight.

TCW Tre started releasing his songs on Jan 1st, 2020 with the intention to start the decade with a dream. TCW Tre is determined and confident he will reach his goals. In both sound and lyrics, TCW Tre’s voice is becoming increasingly distinct from the rest of the artist’s repertoire. In addition to being familiar and appealing, it authentically conveyed the song’s atmosphere, presented honesty, and revealed exposure. All while weaving through a series of flows that continually return to the creative and melodically captivating hook. He is expected to make great waves in his music.

Artist Interview

Modern Soulful Music: What made you decide to jump into the music industry or music business?

TCW Tre (TT:) I started singing a lot to songs and over time I just decided I wanted to make my own songs, so I literally looked up “how to make a song” and a website called “soundtrap” popped up and I went in and started making my first songs.

What do you think makes you stand out from all the other aspiring and upcoming artists in your genre of music?

TT: I talk about things a lot of other rappers don’t, I feel like rap nowadays is about ignorance and materialistic manners, I want to be the one who changes that.

If you could collaborate with ANY artist/band… Who would you choose and why?

TT: Xxxtentacion because he grew out of his ignorant manners and realized what life was all about, I wish he was still alive to continue his legacy.

Out of all the songs you’ve released, what do you think is your Best song and why?

TT: I have no idea, I’m constantly making better songs one after another. What used to be my best song, isn’t anymore.

Between creating in the studio OR performing live on stage, which is your most enjoyable one and why?

TT: I’ve always liked performing on stage. I like when the crowd can feel the music instead of casually listening in their free time.

What would you consider the most successful or proudest moment in your music career, so far?

TT: I’m at the beginning of my career and still have a lot of unreached milestones. Motivation is what keeps me making music. The thought of what I could be if I put my all into what I want motivates me.

What inspires you the most about the music industry these days?

MM: I make music about my life, I used to have a lot of issues in my life and even though they are solved, I still make music about them.

What kind of impact do you want to make with your music?

TT: I want to get rid of stereotypes about people. For instance, I’m a rapper, but I don’t swear, don’t do drugs, don’t talk about violence, and I only try to help people. A lot of people react negatively when I tell them I’m a rapper which isn’t alright with me.

Artist Interview: Michael Dawikins

Modern Soulful Music: What made you decide to jump into the music industry or music business?

Michael Dawikins (MD:) It was an inborn concept, early in my life I was surrounded by music personalities such as Dennis Brown, Rappa Robert, Tippa Lee, and producer Barry Clark who took me into his camp. I know that I have something to offer and that I can make a difference on the music scene so I decided to become an artist.

What do you think makes you stand out from all the other aspiring and upcoming artists in your genre of music?

MD: The emphasis with the regularity of how I practice brings out the difference in my sound and that’s why I stand out from the rest.

If you could collaborate with ANY artist/band… Who would you choose and why?(required)

MD: Stevie Wonder, because he is one of my favorite singers and I love the strong positive messages in some of his musical compositions.

Out of all the songs you’ve released, what do you think is your Best song and why?

MD: That is a very hard question to answer because I have many great songs, but what I can say is that the song that break down many doors for me and gave me the most recognition in Jamaica and worldwide is “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother.”

Between creating in the studio OR performing live on stage, which is your most enjoyable one and why?

MD: I enjoyed performing live on stage, especially with a band because I feel more creative with a natural vibe.

What would you consider the most successful or proudest moment in your music career, so far?

MD: My proudest moment in the music business is when I achieved my first number 1 song on the USA iTunes top 100 reggae chart, # 1 on the Belgium reggae chart, and # 1 on Street Link Jamaica’s reggae chart with the same song. The song is titled “Baby I’m A Want You.”

Check it out here. The track is now available on Spotify and many other digital music streaming platforms:

“Outta Love” is a brand new soulful track from Rohan: don’t miss out!

Born in the Greater Toronto Area, Rohan was raised by a lower-class immigrant family in Ontario, Canada. Struggling to make ends meet, both parents did their best to provide the necessities of childhood life, despite their economic situation.

Ontario-based artist Rohan continues to raise the bar in the alternative Neosoul and storytelling R&B/Hip Hop, with the striking intensity and equally heart-stirring visuals of “Outta Love.”

Rohan’s passion for music was clear from a young age, exemplified when performing rap songs in front of parents & teachers at just 6 years old. After high school, he began a musical career as a producer & eventually got an internship at an incubation hub in Toronto where he refined production, engineering & writing talents.

Rohan is an artist known for throwing a wrench into the works and going against the grain of the current fashion trend in his career. His mannerisms are all his own. Rohan’s low-voiced bellow is deep, atonal, and easygoing, and its contained coolness is almost threatening. It’s a kind of rap rendition that wraps you around its low-voiced bellow soul.

In both sound and lyrics, Rohan’s voice is becoming increasingly distinct from the rest of the artist’s repertoire. In addition to being familiar and appealing, it authentically conveyed the song’s atmosphere, presented honesty, and revealed exposure. All while weaving through a series of flows that continually return to the creative and melodically captivating hook.

Influenced by the diaspora he grew up in, Rohan creates a unique international sonic palette that spans multiple genres, interpolating alternative R&B/Hip-Hop with culturally global sounds. His songwriting displays the narrative of the struggle of the first-generation millennial, dealing with & juggling the expectations of culture, family, tradition & society.

“Outta love is a stripped down cinematic r&b ballad that reflects on relationships & their effect on our emotions. Self produced & a fresh feel, it reminds us our hearts can be a cost to being so lovin”

– Rohan

Rohan paints a picture of his present environment filled with women, friends, money & purpose yet feels a void in his life caused by a past partner. The song, produced by him & long-time collaborator Ilario Circosta has an array of strings, pianos & beautifully unique production that continues to build until an absolute epic end exploding into what can only be described as love. A fresh feel in today’s music scene, the song reminds us all how there can be a tremendous cost to being a free and loving person – our hearts.

Artist Bio

It all started with a stereo, a keyboard, and a Georgia-born/Delaware-raised boy with a dream. The moment Ahmad was able to quote song lyrics as a toddler, he knew he found a new love; that new love was music. From that special day, Ahmad McCown was listening to the sounds of legends such as: Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, and Luther Vandross. In addition to being introduced to these talented artists, McCown became heavily influenced by artists in the names of Tevin Campbell, Babyface, Boyz II Men, Musiq Soulchild, Donell Jones, and many others. As time went by, McCown decided to use his musical gifts by participating in elementary school choirs and high school talent shows.

Artist Interview

Modern Soulful Music: What made you decide to jump into the music industry or music business?

Ahmad McCown (AM:) Ever since I was young, It was my dream to entertain. For as long as I can remember, I have been a dream chaser. Plus, music is my gift. As I have said multiple times, God gave us all a gift, and he would want us to share that gift with the world, or else he wouldn’t have given it to us. Using our gift could inspire others to use their gift as well.

What do you think makes you stand out from all the other aspiring and upcoming artists in your genre of music?

AM: I feel what makes me stand out from others is my demeanor. All my life, I have been taken for someone older, and that’s what you hear in my music. People have told me that my music brings an old-school vibe to listeners. What makes me different is my content. Not only do I provide a great beat, I also bring meaningful lyrics that would catch the attention of listeners.

If you could collaborate with ANY artist/band… Who would you choose and why?

AM: Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds is someone I have always wanted to collaborate with. I have the utmost respect not only as a performer but as a songwriter and producer. He is responsible for a lot of the great R&B classics we know and love. I feel that Babyface would not only be a great collaborator but also a great mentor to learn from.

Out of all the songs you’ve released, what do you think is your Best song and why?

AM: Out of the songs that I have released so far, I would say that “My Destination” is my best song. I feel that it’s a song that everyone can relate to. That reason is that we have all been in a situation when we were trying to accomplish something and someone has tried to bring us down. “My Destination” is a track that would give listeners the motivation to go after what they want.

Between creating in the studio OR performing live on stage, which is your most enjoyable one and why?

AM: Well, to be honest, I made my debut during the pandemic, so far I’ve experienced the studio mostly. However, I’ve always enjoyed performing in front of an audience growing up.

What would you consider the most successful or proudest moment in your music career, so far?

AM: So far, my proudest moment so far is “My Destination” reaching number one on the IndieTop Chart in November.

What inspires you the most about the music industry these days?

AM: What inspires me the most about the industry today is the empowerment that today’s artists have. As you know it’s not easy being an independent artist, but these artists have the talent, the freedom, and power to make a change. They don’t have to rely on a record label to promote themselves. Investing in yourself is the best decision anyone can make.

What kind of impact do you want to make with your music?

AM: For me, it’s more than about making music. It’s about making memories as well as having a career with longevity. While I’m in a creative state of mind, I ask myself: Will people be listening to this ten, twenty, or thirty years from now? Are people going to be listening to my music when I am no longer here? If the answer is “YES” to all of these questions, then I know I accomplished something.

#ArtistSpotlight Check out Arimatea inspirational and soulful music. She’s a vocal powerhouse with a positive message. Listen here now:

In the eternal search to find freedom, change, and the courage to simply be oneself, Italian singer-songwriter, Arimatea has been circling the globe to find her true purpose in life, after her debut album “A Sentimental Journey…from Italy to USA” received critical acclaim. Now back to amaze her fans with a whole host of singles, Arimatea is set to deliver on all the promises she has ever made.

Smooth tone, gentle vibrato, attractive octave range, and consistent flowy vocals make Arimatea an artist to watch. She has a Contemporary / RnB & Jazzy sound that also offers a diverse production selection to keep things soulful.

Song Review

“Life Can Be Easy” is something truly tearfully beautiful in the artist corner, fusing together a catchy soundscape with motivational origins and a blissfully soulful RnB vocal from Arimatea – the result is something that feels like gospel and ultimately paves the way for a more creative, sensitive, and inspirational RnB realm of tomorrow.

The effect of “Life Can Be Easy” is to draw the listener’s attention to the inspirational, empowering rhythm and, of course, Arimatea strong vocals in the background. Or, more precisely, motivational lyrics — there’s a wide range of them on display.

She creates an arrangement with a lot of jazzy ebbs and flows, much like the action of waves lapping in the ocean, which is quite beautiful, thanks to the extensive use of her range, runs, and riffs. As a result, there is a sense of soulful richness throughout.

As a result of the overall mood shift, the audience’s spirits are lifted as a result. It is only a brief moment, but the beauty and intensity of the lyrical passages are swiftly combined with her angelic voice, and we begin to connect with the bold and beautiful undertones that run throughout this song.

“Life Can Be Easy” sheds new light on the artist, striking a chord with spectators because of its transparency, fragility, purity, and the powerful artistic thread that runs through the work.

Life can be easy. If you want, never stop dreaming. Just be strong… You’ll be shining again.

Arimatea “Life Can Be Easy”

Arimatea Bio & Interview

Currently based in New York, her pedigree in the industry is undeniable. Like every seasoned professional, she has learned the lessons of a life that has been lived in the light and the dark. Inspired by some of the most legendary singers that have ever graced the microphone including Whitney Houston, Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Alicia Keys, and Randy Crawford, she embraces everything she does in a voice that simply soars above her productions.

From Italy, New Orleans, China, and New York, Arimatea has absorbed the world around her as her music touches the genres of R&B, Soul, Pop, and Jazz. Refusing to be defined by others’ expectations, she is breaking down barriers and showing us that we can change our reality.

Arimatea breathes new life into the music industry at a time when we need it the most. The inspiration, the strength, the power, and the love in her music are the perfect companions as we seek a better world. This is her time to shine; free from the past with an eye on the future.

Modern Soulful Music: What made you decide to jump into the music industry or music business?

Arimatea (A:) It was kinda “natural”: I could sing without any training since childhood (back then I didn’t understand it was something special… I thought anybody could do that), and also songs come to me sometimes naturally, without really having to put focus or effort.

After some bad experiences in the music industry and problems in my personal life though, I put aside my career as a singer… I haven’t been releasing music for many years… But I kept singing and writing songs (this is just who I am, I can’t help it), while I was helping people finding their “true voice” as a Vocal Coach.

Today I’m back because I now recognise that I’ve been blessed with a big gift and I have to share it with people. Talent comes with a responsibility, you have to share it and bring value to the world, it would be a shame to waste it.

It took me a long time to overcome issues in my personal life; I had to learn to see and recognize my own beauty, my value, my talents. I had to learn to believe in myself … My mission is to inspire people to see and recognize their own, authentic, beauty.

What do you think makes you stand out from all the other aspiring and upcoming artists in your genre of music?

A: I honestly don’t have an answer in terms of what my music genre is or should be and how I’m different. All I bring in my music is my story, my unique background.

I’m Italian. I grew up in the north, but my parents were from the south, that meant humble origins at that time. I went to school with the kids of bourgeois families, and I was often discriminated (not by the kids, but by the teachers)… I felt different from everyone else, but I didn’t understand that it was a matter of social classes (a child doesn’t know); I believed something in me was wrong.

I didn’t feel seen, I didn’t feel heard and understood… I went to a catholic school, by the nuns: they had an “old style” of education, let’s say… At that time they believed in guilt, shame, humiliation and punishment to educate… Also my family was pretty dysfunctional.

So I couldn’t really express my feelings, my needs or desires.
Music was the only “safe place” for me to express myself. When I played the piano or sang, I was free to be whatever I wanted to be; I didn’t need to hold back my feelings.
Of course I didn’t know at that time: I just felt I had to play and sing, I loved it.
Today I know what that “safe place” has been for me and I encourage people to explore and free their voices to express one’s true self.
My personal story is definitely different from other artists in my genre…
I think that the fact that I’ve been a teacher and a coach for many years is something different too. Even though I put my artistic career aside for some years, I was able to live my purpose in a different way. My mission is to express my authentic beauty and inspire other people to see, recognize and live their own beauty. I help people believe in themselves and overcome their fears and limits.
My songs give the same message. I try to live what I teach and be an example for my students and people around me. With my music, I just want to reach more and more people with my message. I know that many people are facing the same struggles and fears everyday.
If I could overcome those issues, anybody can.

If you could collaborate with ANY artist/band… Who would you choose and why?

A: India.Arie. I love her style, I love her songs and her message. Her music resonates with me a lot. Also her alto voice would be a great combination with my soprano voice.

Out of all the songs you’ve released, what do you think is your Best song and why?

A: I honestly think my best song is yet to be released: it’s called “Surrounded By Love”, and I’m gonna release it in a few months.

As I said before, I haven’t been releasing songs for many years… I released an album when I was very young… It’s like I’m starting from scratch.

I recently released 2 songs: “Life Can Be Easy” and “I Don’t Need You”.
They are both significant to me, I wrote them 11 years ago (and produced them 10 years ago) in a very important moment of my life.

– I Don’t Need You –
That was the moment when I started taking back my power. I realized that I wasn’t helpless, that I could walk away from the toxic and abusive relationship I was in… I could make it alone.
It wasn’t easy, and it took me 2 more years to really free myself.
But I made it! I’m a survivor.
I survived violence and abuse. I didn’t want to play the victim anymore. I became very strong.
Today it seems nothing, but at that time it took a lot of courage.

– Life Can Be Easy –
That’s when I realized that I could change my reality… I am responsible for my happiness.
I realized that life doesn’t have to be that hard: we are not supposed to please everyone. I stopped looking for validation; stopped being so hard on myself, demanding to be perfect. I was really the hardest judge ever, against myself!
I started to put myself and my happiness first, without feeling guilty or selfish.
I began a new life, where I was using my talents and making gifts of them.

Between creating in the studio OR performing live on stage, which is your most enjoyable one and why?

I love both. It’s a different kind of experience.

When you are producing and recording a song it’s exciting because you are creating something new; you are bringing out something that was first inside your mind and heart, so you can give life to a piece and share it with people…

Performing live is more about the emotions and energy you exchange with the audience in that very moment… The connection you can create with them, and the sense of belonging in some cases. It’s more direct.

What would you consider your most successful or proudest moment in your music career, so far?

A: As I said, I feel like I’m starting from scratch, I didn’t really have moments that most people would define “successful” in terms of numbers or prizes.

But I can mention an episode that was very significant for me:
3 years ago I was performing at a busking festival in Italy. I was new to the busking experience: I loved the energy and the connection I was having with the audience… Before singing my song “Life Can Be Easy” I felt inspired to share what the song meant to me, what I went through and how I was feeling when I wrote it … I felt safe and relaxed like if I were talking to dear friends of mine. When I started singing, a woman in the audience was moved to tears; that was really touching (I almost cried while singing). She came to hug me and say thank you after the show.

It was a crucial moment, because it made me realise that I can really bring value with my music… Before that moment I didn’t understand that my music can be “healing” for someone. It was the first time I was confident enough to be so vulnerable in front of the audience, not only while singing, but also speaking my truth and telling my story.

This is success for me, this is what motivates me: being able to touch people’s hearts and bring them love, hope, courage, positivity, joy.

What inspires you the Most about the music industry these days?

The fact that nowadays I don’t need a label to release my music and grow my fanbase. It doesn’t matter if I’m 40 years old and I don’t look like a model… The internet gives me the possibility to reach an audience.
It was very different when I started.
